The Wedding Date (Crap)
The Wedding Date portrayed the escapades of a scorned woman who hired a gentleman escort to make her ex-fiancĂ© feel jealous. On paper, a textbook chick flick. In practice, well… For starters, the movie tried to be both profound and funny, but failed miserably at both. It was clear that the concept was meant to be amusing, but the director tried to add an element, nay, an undercurrent - well, an undertow, really - of philosophy. Touching, poignant scenes in comedies are often welcome, but in this case the serious elements were usually awkward and often depressing, and the pensive musings of the cast often didn’t even make sense. Add to that stilted dialogue, awkward confrontations, and a fair amount of inexplicable vulgarity, and things went south fairly quickly. There were some moments that were real gems, but they were really only distantly connected by choppy, terribly-acted character-growth montages. I suppose the best way to describe it would be to say that it was cobbled together; a bunch of random scenes that weren’t really connected, except that the characters remained the same throughout. It was almost like looking at a bunch of photos, but not having the photographer on hand to explain them. I think Danielle said it best when she matter-of-factly noted, “This is a poorly written movie.” My recommendation? Rent the dated-yet-quite-enjoyable Picture Perfect instead, or heaven forbid, Pretty Woman.
