AVP: Alien Vs. Predator (Good)

Filed under: Movie Reviews, 60 Second Reviews — Steve @ 7:57 pm

Synopsis: An archaeological expedition to Antarctica discovers an ancient pyramid built by an ancient civilization for a special purpose. The ancent civilization: the aliens from Predator. The special purpose: to breed more aliens from Alien. You do the math.

I’d like to start with three words: it didn’t suck. This pleased me to no end, as I had gone in expecting it to be the WWE version of the steadily-declining Alien movie series. While there were a few groaner scenes in the movie, overall it was entertaining and exciting. I did say I was a sucker for a mediocre monster movie, and this one does that a couple of degrees better. While it wasn’t really that scary, and there wasn’t much to it (enter the underground pyramid, run around and try not to be the next one to die), it had a certain simplistic charm. It also fleshed out the Alien/Predator story a bit (although, not always in good ways), which offers a few nuggets for fans of the series. Speaking of which, I hold Predator and the first two Alien movies in very high regard, and compared to those it doesn’t hold a candle. But by itself, it was a worth-while film. I’d go see it again, if my wife would let me.
